PPP government issued a notification at 1am stating that Intelligence Services Bureau (ISI) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) would perform their duties under interior ministry and their all operational, financial and administrative matters would also be controlled by the same. After two hours of this notification around at 3am, this was reversed by explaining the reason that this was being misunderstood. So, these two institutes would again report directly to Prime Minister instead of interior ministry.

It was further explained that the main purpose of issuing this notification was to extend the cooperation between interior ministry and ISI on the matters of war on terror and internal security. Prime Minister Gillani approved this notification before leaving for the US.

Former chief of ISI, General (R) Hameed Gul said that after suicide attack on Indian Embassy in Afghanistan, India passed a comment to break ISI and now it was an attempt for the same. He also told that it was good news for the enemies of Pakistan like India and Israel.

Some other experts have condemned this act and term it as a gift to the US government during recent Gillani’s tour to US and this notification was issued in hurry at mid-night without consulting coalition partners which shows PPP government’s dishonesty and lack of abilities.
