Prime Minister, Yousaf Raza Gilani has allowed NEPRA (National Electric
Power Regulatory Authority) to increase power tariffs by 31% according to new formula instead of 50-60% which was suggested by NEPRA. Gilani took this decision after discussing with Finance Minister, Naveed Qamar and Minister for Water & Power, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf. Notification will be issued in a day or two in this regard.
It has also been reported that recently consumers are being charged Rs. 3.08 per unit for the consumption of first 100 units, Rs. 4 for next 200 units and Rs. 6.53 for above 300 units. But now according to new formula, up to 50 units, no extra tariff will be charged from a consumer but if more than 50 units will be used, he will have to pay huge bill.
Raja Pervaiz Ashraf told few days ago that alternative sources had been developed to meet power needs of the country. He further added that for this purpose, a foreign company had launched a project of windmill in Sindh and hopefully, we would be able to generate electricity at the end of 2009.
