(PTI): The unemployment rate in the 16-member eurozone has reached a 10-year high of 9.5 percent in July with another 167,000 people losing their jobs.

Data released by Eurostat shows 15.09 million people in the eurozone were unemployed in July — the highest since May 1999.

EU’s statistics office, however, says the rate is now increasing at a slower pace.

“July’s figures show that euro-zone unemployment is now rising at a slower rate, but it will be some time before the labor market really starts to recover,” Jennifer McKeown, an economist at Capital Economics in London, wrote in a research note.

The jobless rate across 27-member European Union increased to 9.0 percent as the number of those without work increased by 225,000 to 21.794 million.

The figure shows the highest level of unemployment across the EU since 2005.
The British Ministry of Defense has already agreed to pay a total of GBP 3 million (USD 4.8 million) in compensation to Mousa’s family and other detainees who have been subjected to abuse.
